"Who is it that overcomes the world?"
"Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God."
1 John 5:5
A verse that God made stand out for me in the word today is Mark 12:29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'There is no commandment greater than these."
All the commands God has given relate to love aimed at God or love aimed at your neighbors. When we show love to God, we obey his commands by, interestingly enough, loving Him and the world. He has made His commands simple enough for a child to understand and obey, so in that sense they are not a burden. Obeying God is can be hard though, but when we are in God, when we are born of Him, we have His strength, which can overcome the world. And who is born of God?
1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
Thanks for this piece of word Joe. It made me look up the passage myself and made me realize how simple it all is. Why then, do I still struggle if it's that simple? The battle against the flesh is hard. Perhaps that's why humility is such a key factor... God's gift is there for the taking, but we're too prideful to take hold of His power.
