Oh, man... such an excellent book. Some of the clearest, most logical apologetics out there, plus a whole lot more. I've read through it before, but for the last several months my mens group has been going through a chapter a week. So much truth in that book.

I would advise against getting this one on audio, however. This is one you want to "chew on" as you read. It's not that Lewis writes in a confusing style, but just that there's a lot to consider as you go along (which might be hard to do without pausing the audiobook). That's been our experience anyway.

You will not regret this purchase, Mike! In fact, you can often find this book compiled with some of his other short stuff (Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, etc) in one volume. Which are also excellent.

I agree with Seth wholeheartedly. Mere Christianity introduced me to the world of apologetics, and now I can't get enough of the stuff! It took me a really long time to read Mere Christianity just because I was stopping every few lines to fully digest the material. Some of the stuff C.S. Lewis brings up is so powerful you can't help but look up from the book and start thinking about it.

Hey, Mike? Did you ever read this? I moved my copy from my bookshelf to my nightstand a couple months ago and then picked it up and thumbed through it a couple weeks ago. But for some reason I haven't read it yet. Maybe a little discussion would motivate me.

Dude, if you never read anything else by Lewis before the day you die, you must read his lecture "The Weight of Glory." I know of no other work by any other author which has moved me such as this. Here's a link to a pdf posted online:

Hey Joe,

I know what you mean. I'm an avid reader of CS Lewis; right now I'm making my way through The Problem of Pain. But I still haven't finished Mere Christianity.

From what I've read of it, I think Mere Christianity is a great introduction to Christianity, but it might be a little redundant if you've been studying apologetics for a long time.

Still though, I'd recommend most any CS book you can get your hand on.

But of course, as they say on Reading Rainbow, don't take my word for it! Check it out!

I just watched the 2nd Narnia (Prince Caspian) over the weekend. The symbolism is so baffling. CS Lewis was a genius. One thing that I've always wanted to work harder on is "setting my mind on heaven" as I go about my day. The Scriptures speak very directly that we must be dreaming of heaven and "putting our hope" there. It's pretty evident that CS Lewis had no trouble dreaming of heaven, and its citizens, and the story that must unfold until we arrive there and even there after.

Mike, here's a fun lecture by Peter Kreeft on "Mere Christianiity" the book. It'll give you a good idea about the book if you haven't read it yet...
